The XXVII Conference of the IAMM TAPC State Chapter was held in Vijayawada at Siddhartha Medical College from September 13-15, 2024.
The 27th Conference of IAMM TAPC was hosted by Department of Microbiology, Govt Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada, from 14th to 15th of September 2024. The Conference Theme was “ Connect beyond boundaries – Microbiology is exciting”.
Keeping in pace with the current challenges and technology perspectives, four Pre-Conference workshops were conducted on 13.09.2024.

First Day of Conference on 14th September 2024
The Esteemed Presidential oration by Dr. Ranganathan Iyer, Consultant Clinical Microbiologist, Gleneagles Global Hospitals, Hyderabad on “From Clinical Microbiology to Theranostics- We learn and Unlearn …”. ; Followed by the Prestigious Dr. K. Rajya Lakshmi Oration by Dr. Jyothi Lakshmi Mudaliar, Professor & Head of Microbiology, Govt. Medical College, Jangaon, Telangana on “Strengthening Laboratory Services For Sexually Transmitted Infections”. The conference was inaugurated by Honourable Principal SMC Vijayawada Dr.D. Venkatesh and other Dignitaries Dr. D.Srinivasa Rao Vice Principal, Dr. Ranganathan Iyer President IAMM TAPC, Dr.Md.Khaleel Secretary IAMM TAPC , Dr.V.V.Padmavathi, APMC Observer and Organizing Secretary Dr.B.Venkata Rao Professor Dept of Microbiology SMC, Vijayawada. The inaugural event went on with Lighting the lamp, release of souvenir and release of news bulletin.
PG symposium on “Action of Antibiotics and the drug targets”, where post graduates from medical colleges presented by sharing in depth knowledge on this. This was moderated well with explaining the principles and knowledge behind by Dr.Lakhsmi Vemu Gorthi Professor of Microbiology from Kamineni Academy of Medical Sciences And Research Centre, LB Nagar, Hyderabad.
“Lab chronicals” was symposium executed on facts, where Dr.K.Nagamani, Principal, Govt. Medical College, Vikarabad, Telangana shared her experiences on “Uplifting of clinical Microbiology labs in public sector - Challenges & trouble shoots” followed by Dr.C.Rattaiah Setty, M.D.,DipRCPath (UK)Consultant Microbiologist Apollo Diagnostics, Vijayawada explored his Microbiology journey in “ Reflections of a clinical Microbiologist”.
Another symposium routed on “Importance of Health care Policies & Standards in diagnostics”. Where Dr.Rahul Narang, Professor & Head, AIIMS Bibinagar explained on “One health programme – implementation”, followed by Dr.K.Saileela, Professor of Microbiology, Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences Narketpalli who narrated on “NABL standards – Implementation”.
Parallel to this an innovative Symposium ushered on “Landscape of Diagnostics in ongoing challenges from Fungi and Viruses”. Dr.P. Umabala, HOD Microbiology, In charge ICMR-AMDRC, NIIMS, Hyderabad portrayed on the “Challenges in the Diagnosis of Fungal infections” and Dr.Usha Kalawat, Professor & Head Dept of Virology, Principal Sri Padmavathi Medical College, Tirupathi emphasized on “Man versus Virus battle: Strategies to win” .
In continuation, a novel Symposium on “Probing advances in Microbiology” was conducted. Where Dr.D.S.Murty, Professor, Sri Venkateswara Medical College, Tirupathi elucidate on “Novel Vaccine Technologies” and Dr.Md.Khaleel, Professor & Head, Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences, Vikarabad elaborated on “ Postgraduate Microbiology Exam demystified: Tips & Tricks” which was benefited PG students.
Day two of the conference on 15.09.2024
There was an enlightened Guest lecture by Dr. Savitri Sharma, Network Director Emiritus, Laboratory Services, L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad high lighted on “Relevance of Research in Ocular Microbiology”. Followed by an educative guest talk by Dr. Sumit Rai, Professor & Head Dept of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases AIIMS, Mangalagiri on “Interpretive Reading in Daily AST Reporting”.
The day ended with the outstanding debate topic "Out of hour calls in Clinical Microbiology Accept or Avoid" . Dr.I.Jyothi Padmaja Professor Maharajah's institute of medical sciences, Vizianagaram presided the session and made the debate as panel discussion for better reach of the content to the postgraduates. Dr.V.V.Shailaja Professor & Head of Microbiology, Govt. Medical College, Siddipet, Dr Ramakrishna Pai Addl professor, Clinical Microbiology, AIIMS Mangalagiri, Dr.P.Sirisha Consultant, Manipal Hospitals & Rainbow Children hospitals, Vijayawada lead an astonished interactive session highlighting the role of clinical Microbiology and lab services in patient management.The two day programme was moderated by Dr.B.A.Ankitha Asst Prof, Dept of Microbiology SMC, Vijayawada. The conference event was concluded with proposal of vote of thanks by Dr. Y.Saritha Asst Prof, Dept of Microbiology SMC, Vijayawada.
